The Nevada Treasury’s annual open enrollment period for the Nevada Prepaid Tuition Program began on November 1, 2026, and will continue through April 30, 2027. The structured savings plan program allows Nevada families to explore several payment options for college tuition and secure the price of in-state tuition amid ongoing tuition and fee increases.
Earlier this year, the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board of Regents approved a tuition and fee increase for the University of Nevada, Reno, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Nevada State University, and Nevada’s community colleges. The cost per university credit hour has risen from $91 in the 2004-2005 school year to $312.75 in the 2026-2027 school year. With tuition continuing to rise over the next three years, Prepaid Tuition offers families a unique opportunity to secure current rates and avoid the financial uncertainty of future increases. The program continues to be one of the most effective tools for managing college costs, protecting household budgets and investing in students’ futures.
This year, the Treasury is making it easier than ever to get started with as little as a dollar down. While the enrollment fee is typically $100, it’s just $1 during the 2026-27 enrollment period, reducing the upfront cost and encouraging more Nevada families to take the first step toward planning for their children’s higher education.
“With tuition costs continuing to rise, the Nevada Prepaid Tuition Program gives families a way to plan ahead and protect their investment in their children’s future,” said Nevada State Treasurer Zach Conine. “With enrollment starting at just $1 this year, we’re making it easier for more Nevada families to get started, lock in today’s tuition rates and take a meaningful step toward making higher education more affordable.”
For more than 27 years, the program has helped more than 9,400 students attend over 300 institutions nationwide and has paid out over $184.2 million in tuition benefits. Prepaid Tuition offers families flexibility with five different plans and four different payment options. This program can be used in combination with financial aid and other savings plans as well as scholarships, including the Millennium Scholarship and 529 savings programs when used in-state.
“Starting to save for college can feel overwhelming, but the Nevada Prepaid Tuition Program gives families a practical way to take that first step,” said Dr. Tya Mathis-Coleman, Deputy Treasurer for College Savings at the Nevada Treasury. “With flexible plans and payment options, and a minimal enrollment fee this year, we’re helping families begin planning for their children’s education in a way that works for their budget and gives them greater confidence about future college costs.”
