Weather forces schedule change for Special Olympics NHC Fall Games

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Special Olympics New Hanover County has rescheduled one day of its games due to weather concerns.

The games will now take place on the following dates based on athlete age groups:

• Preschool athletes: Nov. 20, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Child Development Center.
• School-age and adult athletes: Dec. 11, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Legion Stadium. Originally scheduled for Nov. 6, but moved due to weather.

During the games, hundreds of local athletes showcase their skills while participating in a wide variety of activities, ranging from soccer and bocce to dancing and football throws.

Volunteers can assist in several capacities, including event setup, managing game stations or supporting participants directly from the sidelines. Community members interested in participating are encouraged to register online in advance to secure a volunteer role.
